Getting kids involved in events like this has to be the way to effect real change. This generation has pretty much blown it so we really need to let the children get involved and hear their voices too. It's also encouraging to see that more children at schools in the USA are now choosing a vegetarian or vegan diet for environmental reasons as well. Maybe there is hope for the future after all.

The young ones are indeed our future.
We need to teach them the right thing to do in protecting Mother Earth.
It would only be effective if we also doing the right thing, so that they would see that we are actually taking care of our Environment. Don't allow your children see your bad habits as well.

I am really excited about the recent trend to make the world a "greener" place. I decided to hold a yard sale on earth day to get rid of things I don't use so that others can use them and they won't end up in some landfill. I'm sure that "going green" is going to stick around, because there is no denying that the world is in need of changes.

When my daughter was a kid, every year for earth Day, her school would have a huge sale, in which the kids were expected to bring in all their unwanted toys and sell them to other kids at school that might want them (rather than throwing them away, recycle the toys by finding them a new home)

Any money they raised from this big sale was used to buy square inches of rain forest land, adopt a zoo animal belonging to an endangered species, and other appropriate things.

My daughter took it a step further and she used to clean out our recycle bin of all kinds of glass jars and small clear plastic soda bottles, paint them up, fill them with candy, flowers, or other trinkets, and sell them to the teachers.

They were amazing looking, and not the kind of things you'd want to toss away. Even the paints she used were recycled, unwanted bottles of nail polish that the original owners didn't want any more. Rather than throwing them away, they gave them to her for her recycle crafts.

My daughter is 2 and she already know about recycling and when she should turn the water off. I have her getting use to turning water off when we are brushing her teeth. I am Native american, so I have always had this passion, now I hope to pass it on.
